Priests and Saviours

Acknowledgements to education101intrototeaching.pbworks.com for the image In my short life time I have evolved from the views of an atheist teenager, a part believer in God and a sceptic in the supernatural. From the stories I've heard  while working with people, and being in close contact with the dying I've solidified certain beliefs. One is that humans are not alone,  and there are other beings out there. They may be spirits of the departed, angels, demons or the fey. Whatever they are they exist and our religious leaders are in close contact with them. I heard this story from a young woman living in Northern Ireland, lets call her Sally. Sally had been invited to dinner at the local pastors house when a distraught husband came in.His wife had been acting strange for the past few months. The man explained that during the same time every month , his wife was not herself. She spoke in a different voice and did terrible things. The man was afraid for the l...

Possession

Image
Acknowledgments to howardlyon.com for the image Whilst watching the movie Possession (2009) last week by director Joel Bergvall, I remembered several stories that I had heard about trances, bad spirits and possessions. The movie was about two brothers who had a head on collision, and as their blood which spilt on the ground met, their souls seemed to be linked. One was able to possess the others body, and vice versa. When I was younger, and ultimately less experienced in this world, I never believed or even paid mind to such tales. They were fiction, faery tales told to deter children and adults from unscrupulous behaviour. However, after several years of life experience, I have learnt to be open minded with regard to such renditions, especially when they are made by reputable people like clergymen and sober individuals. Here is a story about an apparent possession told by a young gentleman travelling on the train in the Sydney CBD. The young man having finished...

Messages from the other side

Image
Acknowledgements to tarotguild.com  for the image. Throughout my life, I have heard several stories about the other side . In fact all the stories collected and written in this blog, come from people doing all sorts of jobs all over the world, and their stories seem to link us to the other side . I once went for spiritual classes held by a Hindu devotee. Here I learnt the soul is like a light, that energises the body giving it life. Also, the souls of all creatures on earth are linked, we are all part of one entity that is God, and our task is to get back to the all mighty. The messages we receive here on earth, seem to be guides, or warnings. Their meanings are sometimes unclear, but if we can unravel them, we may be able to have a smoother existence. This next story is about an unclear message. A young gentleman, arrived at fifteen minutes to midnight at a maternity ward in Pietermaritzburg. He was there to meet h...

Quarantine Station in Manly Sydney

Image
Acknowledgements to http://www.manlyquarantine.com/Historical%20photos.htm  for the image Just this week, I heard a supernatural story from a friend about Quarantine Station, in Manly Sydney. The land upon which, the Quarantine Station in Manly was built, was first occupied by the aborigines. After the first British fleets came to Australia, the settlers negotiated with the natives, and took over the land. The arrival of subsequent other fleets, and the prevalence of disease on board the ships, resulted in an area being needed for the temporal housing of the sick. So, the above building was built, and the sick were housed and treated there. Unfortunately medicine was still a work in progress, and several people died in this building. The building was used for 140 years as a quarantine site for settlers, and the last ship that brought in occupants was in 1975. Due to its history the building is now...

Faery Ground

Image
Acknowledgements to ullansblog.blogspot.com for the image There are several legends and stories of faeries. Folk tales from all around the world, talk of the little people and how they help, or harm humans. Its true, these tales may be centuries old, but what have happened to the faeries ? Are they still amongst us, or have they died off, due to the destruction of the forests, that are their homes? Or have they found other places to live? An Irish gentleman, told me a story about the abandoned land near his grandmother's house. His grandmother lived on a vast piece of land near Dublin. This property had been in the family for generations, and the abandoned land with ruins was part of  the family property. However, due to rumours no one ever went near it. The children were told, it was inhabited by unfriendly  faeries . So, completely indoctrinated in the Irish beliefs of the wee people, no one ever ventured near. Odd sounds were heard f...

A Love Spell

Image
Acknowledgements to lovespells.org.uk for the image Love spells are something we are all familiar with. We have heard about them in faery tales, wished we could cast one on our first crush, and been warned about them by superstitious relatives. I even found a book with love spells in the local library. The cover was pretty but the inside contained some scary stuff. (I never borrowed it, too much bad mojo.) Talking about the existence of spells, with a work colleague last month, she told me about a love spell that had been cast on her brother. When my colleague lived in Albania,( lets call my college Claire ,her brother Dave and the girl Maree) her younger brother had a very possessive girlfriend. The girl was completely in love, and utterly obsessed with Dave. She never let him out of her sight. Needless to say, she went almost everywhere with him, and got angry if he ate at his mother's house when she had prepared dinner. Like with all young men, t...

Angels and Demons

Image
Acknowledgements to hairstyle-artist-indonesia.blogspot.com for the image.  If you believe in God, surely you must believe in Angels and Demons. The question is though; are they here on earth? Can we see them? Will they help or harm us? The following is a story from a nursing student working in an old hospital. Night duty, has been the the fear of most new nurses. Training hospitals are old, creaky and pretty much scary at night. Worst of all, is the one hour break that the 'in-charge nurse' takes, and then you're alone. Alone with the sleeping patients and the sounds of the night. The night-shift for this young nurse was pretty ordinary, buzzers to answer and the usual rounds. A cat came into that night, which was always a bad sign. There have been legends, of cats being 'The Guardians of the Gates of the Underworld' . They apparently send the creatures of the night back to where they come from. The young nurse, chased the cat out of the ward . After her shi...
