The Chronicles of Chemmis: Awake : Chapter Seven

Hi Everyone, as it is Easter I have posted two Chapters of my novel this week. Please enjoy the adventure. Chs  Nivi Chapter Seven Lindy Venzu Village – Monday 0530 Sweet smelling smoke wafted all around me warming my skin, but inside I felt as cold as ice. Quincy had completed the cleansing ritual half an hour ago, and now I was alone in Maxwell’s circular prayer room awaiting blessings from the ancestors. My final test in the Magic Cave began at dawn. Rezna had won the vote after the meeting yesterday, and I had to pass the Witches Graduation Test before, taking my place on the Finder’s Task Force. Quincy, Maxwell’s wife was a Divination Mage. She received premonitions from the ancestors on numerous that had saved clan members lives in battle. When my visions began last year she took me under her wing, trying to coax them out. It was hoped I would progress quickly as she did, but that never happened. My powers waned, and eventually so did her interest. Unfort...

The Chronicles of Chemmis: Chapter Six

Hi Everyone, I hope you are enjoying the story so far... CHAPTER SIX STONE Vira-na-Nog Province  1000 Sunday Ultan reared up almost unseating me, at the edge of the Mellow Marsh. The area stank of stagnant water and dead things, and my horse was more particular to oatmeal and a warm stables. Patting him I whispered words of comfort, and he neighed lowly, growing a little less skittish.  Dismounting, I found a fallen tree and tied his reins to it. The rank smell of the Marsh, made my stomach turn. I drew out one of my satin handkerchiefs and secured it over my nose and mouth. Breathing a little easier, I studied the patches of dark brown rot, mixed with convulsing mud that made up the marshland.  I wished I didn’t have to do this, but there was no other way. Oake’s Crossing was the shortest distance across the marsh in Vira Na Nog Province. If I wanted to get to the Willow Witch and be back by dusk I had to cross it. Remembering Granna’s words when s...

The Chronicles of Chemmis: Chapter Five

Hi Everyone the saga continues...here is Chapter Five Chapter Five Lindy Venzu Village – 1000 ‘She can’t be on the “Task Force”! She hasn’t even completed her final trial through the Magic Cave.’ I woke up to people shouting all around me. Dazed, I blinked until my vision became clearer. The room I lay in was circular and a musky smell drifted through the air. Trying to identify the odour, I looked around but my brain and eyes were out of sync. The couch I lay on was warm and soft, and my feet were raised on something. Trying to sit up, I noticed Dillon. My feet were on his lap, and he was gazing at me with an intense look. ‘Hey there sleeping beauty. Lay back down. You hit your head pretty hard, when you blacked out,’ Dillon said. He gently pushed me back down. A circle of people stood nearby and were arguing about something. I recognised Maxwell, Genevieve and Thomas but the other two were in robes, and had their backs to me. ‘Maxwell! You have to ...

The Chronicles of Chemmis: Awake : Chapter Four

CHAPTER FOUR STONE Vira-na-Nog Province   0800 Sunday ‘What do you mean? They have just disappeared’ my father’s voice boomed so loudly out of the library, that the crystal chandelier's in the hallway shook in protest. Not wanting to disturb an important meeting, I hovered at the threshold, but stole a glance inside the library. Father and General Casey were at the far end, standing in the King’s favourite alcove. The fire was already lit, an indicator that I was not the only early riser this morning. Father must have gotten up before dawn. General Casey was cool as an iceberg in his pale-blue Guards uniform, which contrast with father’s fire-red morning jacket, and his smoldering gaze. An image of fire lashing at ice drifted through my mind, as I watched them argue.   ‘We sent out four scouts two days ago. By dawn today they had covered all quadrants of the Shire, but there are still no new signs of them,’General Casey said. ‘So, you are telling me...
Hi Everyone...I hope you have been enjoying the book so far. Here is Chapter Three. Chapter Three Lindy Venzu Village - 0830 The Town Hall was filled to its seams by the time Jacob and I got there. Women and children sat side by side on ancient wooden benches, and men stood along the sides, and back of the hall, spilling out through the open mahogany doors. All eyes were on Maxwell the Village Mayor/ Head Witch, as he took to the stage and placed a scroll on the pulpit. He had dark bags under his eyes, and his usually pristine clothes were smudged with dirt. He looked down at the village elders as they took their seats, a grim expression on his face. Fear permeated through the air making the meeting hall smell musky and thick with panic. Chemmis had been in peace for centuries and the warning bell was an omen that things were about to change. This made me think of my recent visions and how odd they have been. I chewed nervously at my thumb. This meeting couldn’t be related...
Hi Everyone, I hope you have enjoyed my last chapter. Here is chapter two... Chapter Two Stone Vira-na-Nog Province 0400 Sunday The slap to my face stunned me awake. I rolled over to my right, a move I perfected in defence class, and grabbed the jeweled dagger under my pillow. I was on my feet, before the next blow made an arc in the air. The smell of jasmine filled my lungs as I drew a deep breathe, ready for a fight. ‘That was the second slap, by the way,’ a sweet feminine voice announced. I froze, it couldn’t be. ‘Granna?’ I asked. ‘Yes, of course it is me. Who did you think it was?’she replied. I relaxed my stance. My grandmother was not your usual run-in-the-mill queen-mother, but I still never expected her to wake me up with a clout. My cheek stung like I had been bitten by a swarm of hornets. Lowering myself onto the bed, I held the cool silk sheet to my burning cheek. ‘An assassin…or a burglar maybe? I wouldn’t have expected my elegant gra...
