Chapter Ten: The Chronicles of Chemmis: Awake

Chapter Ten Stone Venzu Village – Monday 0600 The trip to the Witch’s Village was quick on horse back. We moved swiftly via a portal near the Moat of Castle Five Rock. Still, I felt as if my life was moving in slow motion, like in a human horror movie. I was stuck in the scene just before the victim meets the killer. You check everything and it all seems in order, but still there is a sense that you missed something important. I had that feeling now. As if we were going in the wrong direction, or asking the wrong questions. My melancholy could be related to the fact that I did not sleep much after my visit to the Mellow Marsh. On returning to the castle, I was exhausted but sleep would not come. I wandered the halls and met my best friend Alex who was on patrol. She told me what I had missed the day before. The elders had decided a Finders Task Force would be formed, with members from all clans on Chemmis. Faeries, Witches, Magi-pi, Seior and Neche would work together to fin...

Chapter Nine : The Chronicles of Chemmis: Awake

Hi Everyone, here is Chapter Nine of Awake: Chapter Nine Lindy Venzu Village – Monday 0530 All time stands still in the Magic Cave, but that did not mean you could not die. The Lamassu that bored down on me was proof of how unprepared I was for this test, and the mission to come. ‘Why are you here?’ growled the creature as it crushed my chest. Bucking, I tried to dislodge the creature but it was too heavy. Searching for my bag, I saw it a few feet away and cursed myself. I tried to reach for my dagger but the beast bit my hand. and I quickly drew it back. ‘I am a student witching and this is my final test,’ I gasped. The lamassu, roared with laughter and moved off me. Rubbing at my chest, I tried to ease the pain of my aching ribs. The creature stalked around me grinning at my pain. Drawing out my dagger I pointed it at my attacker and squatted ready for action. ‘You are not ready to graduate as a witch,’ it declared. Though these words echoed my feeling...

The Chronicles of Chemmis: Awake: Chapter Eight

CHAPTER EIGHT STONE Vira-na-Nog Province  1800 Sunday My lungs burned as I took a deep breath. Odd, I didn’t think you were suppose to feel pain when you were dead. So, the obvious answer was I was still alive because someone saved me. My eyelids felt as heavy as lead, and I could only opened them a fraction. Everything was black and against my own accord, my eyes fell shut again. Panicking, I touched my face and felt something wet and cold, over my forehead and eyes. ‘Don’t take it off unless you want to be blind,’ a sweet female voice said. That voice sounded young, not the croaky voice of the Willow Witch that I remembered. ‘Where am I?’ I asked. I felt a movement near me. ‘In a safe place,’ she said. I remembered falling into the marsh and thinking there was no way, I was surviving this, but here I am. Where that was I did not know exactly, but I was alive. ‘You saved me from the Marsh?’ It was more of an admission than a question. ‘Yes,’ she said, an...

Hi Everyone, as it is Easter I have posted two Chapters of my novel this week. Please enjoy the adventure. Chs  Nivi Chapter Seven Lindy Venzu Village – Monday 0530 Sweet smelling smoke wafted all around me warming my skin, but inside I felt as cold as ice. Quincy had completed the cleansing ritual half an hour ago, and now I was alone in Maxwell’s circular prayer room awaiting blessings from the ancestors. My final test in the Magic Cave began at dawn. Rezna had won the vote after the meeting yesterday, and I had to pass the Witches Graduation Test before, taking my place on the Finder’s Task Force. Quincy, Maxwell’s wife was a Divination Mage. She received premonitions from the ancestors on numerous that had saved clan members lives in battle. When my visions began last year she took me under her wing, trying to coax them out. It was hoped I would progress quickly as she did, but that never happened. My powers waned, and eventually so did her interest. Unfort...

The Chronicles of Chemmis: Chapter Six

Hi Everyone, I hope you are enjoying the story so far... CHAPTER SIX STONE Vira-na-Nog Province  1000 Sunday Ultan reared up almost unseating me, at the edge of the Mellow Marsh. The area stank of stagnant water and dead things, and my horse was more particular to oatmeal and a warm stables. Patting him I whispered words of comfort, and he neighed lowly, growing a little less skittish.  Dismounting, I found a fallen tree and tied his reins to it. The rank smell of the Marsh, made my stomach turn. I drew out one of my satin handkerchiefs and secured it over my nose and mouth. Breathing a little easier, I studied the patches of dark brown rot, mixed with convulsing mud that made up the marshland.  I wished I didn’t have to do this, but there was no other way. Oake’s Crossing was the shortest distance across the marsh in Vira Na Nog Province. If I wanted to get to the Willow Witch and be back by dusk I had to cross it. Remembering Granna’s words when s...
